Life is a journey. I'm looking for an authentic sense of place, for authentic experiences of food, culture, history, nature. I hope that you find something here that's interesting and useful on your journey.

Conversations At The Wienerburger Diner - Welcome!

Conversations At The Wienerburger Diner - Welcome!

Welcome to my blog which ranges from travel and food to culture, geography, geology, history, the arts and wherever my imagination may lead. I hope you'll find some helpful information here and perhaps some inspiration to spark conversations!

So for anyone who hasn't heard the story, this wonderful old neon sign - now long gone - was apparently from an old diner that once stood on this spot along Route 7 in Vermont, just outside of Vergennes, "Vermont's Smallest City." The moment I first saw it, probably twenty years ago, I was enchanted. I thought the name was fantastic and it conjured up images of travelers - maybe in the 50's and 60's? - cruising along America's beautiful small roads. Route 7 in Vermont is magical, especially when you get away from the sprawl of Burlington. It winds through some of the prettiest country anywhere, with the Green Mountains to the east and Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks to the west. I'll be talking a lot more about these roads. I hope that you will, too.

It's important for me to note that I have received no free meals, no promotional materials of any kind, from any places about which I write - with extremely rare exceptions (only two out of hundreds come to mind) which I will specifically note within the same post, and I will not review those establishments but will always refer the reader to accurate, relevant reviews by others.
